It all started six years ago, when I visit a local dog sled race and was intrigued with the case of skijoring. I had a mixed race housing and had convinced myself that actually looked like he had some of Alaska in it. Other people seem to think it was a Shepard mix. Without stopping I signed up for a lesson of skijoring and equipped it with a harness. She did fine as long as the ski instructor was ahead of us holding cookies, but when I tried it at home in our itself was not anything to do with it. We tried a few more times before I realized that I let her chase Frisbees, which was his real passion in life. Plan B was to visit the shelter and find a "real dog sled. As luck would have my partner stopped by the local shelter and was not Jake the Siberian Husky. She thought it was beautiful and what is safe to pull the strap when I took a walk. I stopped to see how to get him and he accepted it was a really beautiful demon not pull on the leash. We brought him home the next day for a trial visit and is still with us today.
Jake took to skijoring quite well due to its Siberia pulling base instinct that was an improvement over my other dog. We had a winter very well with the two learn to skijor. It seemed so funny that my partner was jealous and decided we really should get another dog to skijor both simultaneously. Not by chance near a woman staring at the place of his dog team around, so we went to visit. No, did not come home with the whole team. We have acted with restraint and only brought home one hand, a very female named Misty. Now, every one of us had skijor with a dog and I have to go with twice. That was a mistake because I found it so funny skijor two. Now, I thought that since we were doing very well with two dogs (our first one had died) how much harder it may be three? Misty The house we still had four dogs seeking homes. Visit again and returned home with Aiko. Of course, the obvious next step is to get a room, then we could both skijor with two dogs each, and might even get a sled and try dogsledding with a team of four!
Once I began to go sledding, I began to think how much faster it would be able to go if I was running six dogs instead of four. This led to buying a pair of dogs from a gentleman out of state who had been breeding Siberian races about thirty years. Toots and Nemo gave me a taste of a new level of performance. I also bought them knowing there was a chance to reproduce and we wanted build on this line of dogs. The following spring, we made our first breeding between Toots and Nemo and finished with four beautiful puppies. We only in planning keeping two, but we had no problems with Toots care of puppies and we had to bottle feed the four of them. After that experience we could not with any party. Yard Dog that hit our six to ten in one shot.
Misty has happened to our friends to the house where you can enjoy semi-retirement. Jake has taken a place on the sofa and is much happier sleeping in our bed to be a "real" sled dog. We purchased two other adults as a couple of our first dogs approaching retirement age so we are holding now eleven. I'm giving tours now, so I need to keep a team of eight solid ten dogs.
You can see the slippery slope that can start walking when you pick up that first little innocent Siberian Husky! Some people go and have yard dog with forty, fifty, or even a hundred dogs. I do not intend to go so far and feel good about eleven or twelve years (maybe fifteen) is sufficient to handle. That said, be careful, are contagious!
